Welcome to the Web Ring FAQ!
First, let me introduce myself: my name is Rachelle (pronounced "ruh-shell") and I currently manage several rings and maintain three Ringlink systems. I have been obsessed with webrings since I created my first homepage in 1997. At one point, I belonged to about 50 rings (which really isn't all that many, but anyway. . .), but I have since cut back due to the ring disappearing or the owner never added my site, or I decided it didn't "fit" me anymore. At any rate, more about my rings is discussed elsewhere.
Second, let me explain that this site has several reasons for its existence: 1) because I have an obsession with webrings; 2) because I mange several of them and I thought one central location for help in joining and maintaining a ring would be nice; and 3) it gives me something to work on.
Finally, I'll tell you about navigating this site. To the left are the main pages and some of them have additional pages linked within. Here's the skinny on what's behind these sections:
- History
- Some things I've gathered about the history of the webring, its present, and its future.
- Joining
- Joining talks about how to actually join an existing web ring.
- Rules
- Every web ring has a set of rules, both those for joining and those for staying.
- Fragment
- The fragment is what makes the ring work, this section talks about its function and how to get it from the ring server to your page.
- Images
- Some rings have images, some don't. . .this section explains this and tells you how to get the image (assuming there is one).
- Options
- There are many options for a web ring, both in navigating and managing. This section attempts to explain them.
- Create
- Create deals with creating your own web ring, the process and management.
- FAQ Ring
- This is a webring you can join if you have a website that is a FAQ (frequently asked questions).
- My Rings
- This sections tells about my other rings, why I created them and other nonsense.
